There are Hidden Treasures in Shiphay - people with stories and experiences to share who can't get out and about at the moment. They're interesting people and it can be relaxing to sit for a while, listening and sharing together.
So do you have time to give someone living on their own? Could you chat over a cup of tea, play a game of scrabble or help out with a jigsaw puzzle? A visit of 30-45 mins can make all the difference and if it gradually becomes a regular time it can be great fun for all, building valuable friendships. You can be any age so long as you are mobile to walk round to visit someone nearby, or have your own transport.
Some people are on their own and don't have family nearby. Others have family who are busy and juggling lots of responsibilities. So they may have a visit from a carer in the morning and then a family member may call in with shopping quickly in the evening but the days can feel long and empty.
I'd love to hear from you if you think you'd enjoy visiting people in their home, and making friends. There will be a little bit of briefing to prepare you. Do get in touch asap, Sally Farrant, Community Builder in Shiphay and The Willows.
