Arts and Crafts for Over 50s

My name is Steph, and for the last couple of years, I have been teaching art classes to people of all ages, from:

*my clients' premises (including Lincombe Manor Hall)

* Torquay Market

* My workshop in a former dairy in Brixham

* Outside locations for the Women's Institute and other groups

I particularly would like to reach out to the UC3, WI communities as well as independently living retired people, who perhaps would like to meet other people of their own age.

I would also like to reach out to other organisations who share my goal of reducing social exclusion, such as Day Centres, as well as building new relationships through art and crafts for people who are new to the area.

Why am I interested?

I have always been interested in art and craft. It is something that was passed down from my grandmother, through my father to me.

I loved art and craft growing up, experimenting with stained glass and making glass panels for many prestigious clients.

I achieved a First Class degree in Restoration and Decorative Studies, but I never lost the love to paint.

After moving to Torbay, five years ago, I learnt just how powerful art and craft could be in bringing people together.

I have always enjoyed teaching people and sharing my skills, but up until then, had no idea of the power it had to bring people together from all kinds of backgrounds.

I have never felt more fulfilled in sharing with people, of all abilities, my love of art.

It doesn't matter whether you haven't picked up a paintbrush since your childhood, the ability of art to bring people from all walks of life and create new friendships, never ceases to astound me.

I have found it very rewarding because art can bring people together in ways, other activities cannot.

It builds new friendships, builds confidence and above all, gets you out, and gives you something to do.

I have been teaching art and jewellery making for many years, and nothing is more rewarding than seeing someone who has been housebound for almost a year, create something they never thought imaginable.

If you would like to meet new people, and learn to draw, and paint in simple steps, please contact me, in the first instance, and see how much you can achieve for yourself.

My Very Best Wishes, Steph.
